Luftwaffe Aircrew Identification Armband
This is an identification armband issued to members of the German Luftwaffe (Air Force). The armband is constructed from yellow cotton fabric and features a black-ink printed Luftwaffe eagle emblem above the inscription "Deutsche Luftwaffe" (German Air Force). These armbands were intended for use by aircrew personnel who were forced to bail out over occupied or friendly territory, allowing for easier identification by German military units, police, or civilians.
The armband is factory-stitched at the rear and includes white machine-stitched borders. The design is printed on one side, with the ink often visible in reverse on the interior—a typical trait of period manufacturing methods.
Such armbands were part of standard issue survival equipment and were commonly carried in flight suits or emergency kits. Their use was both practical and precautionary, as they helped reduce the risk of misidentification following emergency landings or ejections.
This example remains in well-preserved condition and is of interest to historians, collectors, and researchers studying Luftwaffe uniforms and equipment.
