Luftwaffe Fighting Knife (Nahkampfmesser) with Scabbard
This is an original example of a German Luftwaffe fighting knife issued during World War II. These knives were typically carried by Luftwaffe ground personnel and paratroopers (Fallschirmjäger) as a utility and close-combat weapon.
The blade bears a "Wa 5" Waffenamt marking — a military acceptance stamp used by the German armed forces to indicate government inspection and approval. The handle is constructed from dark-stained wood, secured by three rivets, and shows signs of period use. The scabbard retains most of its original black finish and features a metal throat and tip, characteristic of field-issue combat knives of the era.
Knives like this were often privately purchased or issued to select units, and they reflect the practical combat equipment used by Luftwaffe personnel throughout various theaters of WWII. This example is representative of the type carried during operations in Western Europe and the Eastern Front.
