German Cross in Gold – Marked '20' Zimmermann
This is an excellent original example of the German Cross in Gold (Deutsches Kreuz in Gold), one of the most prestigious military decorations awarded during the Third Reich era. Instituted by Adolf Hitler on 28 September 1941, the German Cross came in two classes: Gold, for repeated acts of exceptional bravery in combat, and Silver, for distinguished non-combat service contributions.
This is the desirable lightweight version, clearly marked “20” on the reverse of the pin, indicating manufacture by C.F. Zimmermann of Pforzheim. The cross is constructed with a multi-piece design and features intact enamel with only minimal surface wear from age, use, and storage.
Originally worn on the lower right breast of the uniform, this cross remains in very good, field-worn condition, showing authentic signs of wear without any damage or repairs.
A fantastic, untouched and 100% original German Cross in Gold—ideal for serious collectors of World War II German militaria.
